Emily Sarah Lim - 3rd Oct

I'm finally baptized and am officially Emily S.Lim on the 3rd of Oct 2009 (New Creation Church)!
This day is not just my baptism day, it coincided with a special occasion too!

On the Jewish calender, it's Sukkot, the Feast of Tabernacles, a week-long Jewish holiday.
Many scholars believed Jesus was born during the Feast of Tabernacles!
(not Christmas day, cause we know that shepherds were in the fields watching their flocks at the time of Jesus' birth (Luke 2:7-8). However, shepherds were not in the fields during the cold month of December!)


This meant that I'm baptized on Jesus' Birthday! =D *Wider grin*




Alvin and I were assigned to be baptized by Pastor Soo Teck. (Chinese-Service pastor).
I've not met him before, but I recognised his name as he once signed my birthday card from church.


Mon, I didn't know we'd be half submerged in water, I thought it'd just be sprinkling of water on my head!
I only came prepared for have a change of top and not my inner wear.. Hurhur

On Children's Day..

This was what we did on 1st Oct.

LOL.

It was an accident.

I REALLY meant to type 'I love you', but somehow typed 'l l' and pressed the send button a tad too fast.

Wanted to reply I was not refering to Lan Lan Suck Thumb (Singlish = Nothing can be done) as 'l l' can be 'lan lan' and the next thing I knew, I suddenly saw it as a whole, a picture, A SNOUT!

This happened on Children's Day, how apt, childish.

Yeah!

Here are some of my wins collected on the same day!

Started to take part in online contests after winning the netbook.
It was just an internet invitation from Jasmine back then to increase her chances of winning.
Honestly didn't think much of it when I participated in the Ion DNA draw.

So imagine my surprise when I got a call from Ion during a MRT ride home one evening.
Hence this incident made me believe that lucky draws are actually, well, credible after all!
Haha


To date, I've won:
- 3 pairs movie ticket passes.
- 1 pair of tickets to Butterfly Park. (LOL.. like why would I go to Sentosa just fer butterflies!)
- 1 pair clubbing gig tickets
- 1 trolley bag
- Phuket Hotel stay
- Netbook

in a span of 2 months.

Other than the 1 pair of movie ticket to the September Issue, I never once had the chance to collect my wins!
Papa, mummy and even my cousin collected on behalf of me.
An Authorisation letter document is now saved in 'my documents'.


There's a recent article on Straits Times's Life! which featured contest junkies.
I was so amazed at their wins, cars, holidays, whatnotshaveyou accumulated through their years of participation.
But they're really passionate about participating in contests, all sorts.
It had became part and parcel of their lifestyle.


Fer me, I limit myself to just online and e-mail contests via 2 websites which consolidate all contests!
5-10mins max for filling information and the job's done!
I don't believe in spending a lil to get a lot more for contests.

Jasmine do spend, on smses.
She won quite a lot though, but at the expense of papa's!
Her best win to date was a Lee Hwa's Diamond Jewellery Set worth a few k from Wisma!(shopping with mummy has its perks eh?)
Not forgetting to mention I've got an identical necklace as her (part of the set) for my 21st birthday gift from papa and mummy! PIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!



P.S.: These are only MATERIAL blessings, what's more the intangible ones which are raining hard on me! Thank you Abba!

Dizzy Bitzy - Fuzzy Wuzzy

I thought I strained myself too much while cadding non-stop fer 2 hours on my laptop.

Uh oh. I felt dizzy.
The dizzy spell happened not once, but thrice within a span of a few minutes!

Thought to myself:
-Did I ate lunch today? Checked.
-I sat cross legged? No?
-I am that weak?! (Never experience fainting spells before)

Noooo.. that can't be happening, so I started to cad even more furiously to ignore the dizzy spells.
(On the hindsight, I thought I was weird to continue what I was doing.
Should have got up and rest on bed instead but I refused to believe I was that weak I guess. Haha)


It turned out that Singapore experienced tremors from Sumatra's 7.6 magnitude earthquake at 6.15pm and a few minutes there after.

Am sorry to hear about the devastating news, but at the same time, that explained I am not weak after all!!


Jasmine felt the house shook.
I was just next door but I felt nary a shake.
If I knew, I would have ran downstairs to see the swaying chandelier.

09.09.09 Surprise!

Darling sent me a basket of sunflowers!

Was pleasantly surprised as we never plan to celebrate this day!

Baptism Name

I need a baptism name by this week to be water-baptized next week!

Ok, I want it to be included when I baptise mainly because I really believe naming alter one's life. Your name partly defines who you are. (Sounds like Chinese? Other than Chinese, the only other race who believes in name-changing is the Jew! It's in the bible - God changes people's names! see way below)

Help throw in any biblical name suggestions, anyone!!

I scoured through a while, most of the woman are prostitutes (through God's grace, prostitutes are also mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus!) or their names have negative connotations. It's darn hard to find.

Whittled down to a few, esther (the star), sarah (princess and mother of nations)..

I was thinking of SARAH..


Read her story from Genesis Chapters 15 -21:

• She was the only woman in the bible who had exceptional beauty even in her advanced years! Even the Pharaoh (Sarah at 60 years old) and King Abimelech (Sarah at an even older age) wanted her fer their harem! No, Pharaoh and King are not 'pa-jiao'
• She was the only woman to be addressed by God directly (other prophetesses receive revelations through angels)
  
• She had her youth restored when she conceived Issac.

"God also said to Abraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you are no longer to call her Sarai; her name will be Sarah. I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her." Genesis 17, 15-16

She was originally called Sarai (a name which means 'contentious', she dominates her husband. Eg: She asked Abraham to sleep with Hagar to carry his line when she was barren.)

But once God changed her name to Sarah, God breathed GRACE into her.
'Hei' is the 5th letter in the hebrew alphabet, and 5 is the number of grace.

'Hei' means God's breath. When we pronounce 'Hei', it's like breathing out the word. So, when God gave His breath of grace to Sarai, Sarai became SaraH. So did He to Abram, Abram became AbraHam!

See also the power of words! Every time someone called Sarah or when she introduced herself to others, she proclaimed faith, calling herself 'mother of many nations' even before she had a child. At this time, she was already 90 years old!

Subsequently, God called other women after her 'daughters of Sarah' (Romans 16:25-27)



Then I told Alvin, 'Hey, why not you choose Abraham since I'm Sarah.'

Hurhurhurhurhur.

Wells, he is thinking of David. I didn't research on the name, so I can't comment on it. But I think it sounds fat.. Haha. Sorraaay, names that starts with B or D sounds fat to me with a big tummy just that B has a belt on, so what?! So shallow. Hur. MYOB

I had actually entertained with this idea about having a 'S.' middle name since primary/sec school just for this purpose 'slim'.
I never knew I'd have a chance to do so (other than paying a great deal of money to add a few letters in your I/C or telling people you've a new name out of the blue one day) till I learned about baptism last Sunday!
My dream came true, I'd be receiving a certificate with my baptized name on it on 3rd Oct! =)

Black Crabby Patties! - 13th Sept

We're supposed to go fishing in the afternoon before heading off fer dinner at Eng Seng Restaurant at 247 Joo Chiat Place.

Alas, we'd to change plans as peals of thunder were heard just when we're about to meet!
Ended up playing mahjong at my place.
And guess what, it didn't rain the entire day at all. Annoying.


Anyway, fer mahjong, I reaped bountifully at the last round: 5 tais. - 4th to 1st place!!
Amanda was supposed to be leading! Hurhurhurhurhur.

No, we don't gamble nor am I a mahjong pro.. I'm just blessed!
I was the winner fer the previous session too.
Shall post up the mahjong scoring board in future. Wahahahahaha.




Strolled to Eng Seng Restaturant fer it's signature pepper crabs and queued fer a good 20-30mins before getting a table.

What did we do in the meantime?
Photo-taking.

Not normal ones, but UNGLAM ones to the max.
Cringe whenever I open the folder. Haha

(for 2 seats! for 2 seats! - we're that bored and just followed what the aunty said at the restaurant)

Regina's dad said the main chef had left to be stationed at another branch and the standard of crabs may have drop.
I've only eaten it once (Cheng Xi treated!^^) so I couldn't really tell the difference!

I just think that the crabs turned cold a tad too fast.
(C'mon, it's an open air restaurant, leh. Cheebs.)
And the fact that they don't offer my favourite deep fried golden buns to pair with the chilli crabs, it's a disappointment.

In place of golden buns, white bread was served.
I might as well bring along a loaf of Gardenia bread from my home......
O wells, we still ate to our fill - 2 black pepper crabs, 2 chilli crabs and a plate of youtiao!


After dinner, we walked to Regina's place (it's quite near actually, maybe I can cycle to her place once I get my bike!), got the car and went fer Coffee Club at T3 to have coffee and cakes!

Alvin and Emily go Bananas! - 12th Sep

We went to Bollywood Veggies at 100 Neo Tiew Road on a sunny Saturday afternoon right after my dissertation submission.




We's lunch there!

Alvin had one of the "Bollywood's Specials".
I ordered Fish Moilee, and it turned out to be thattttttt small bowl of fish curry you see above!
No wonder the waiter asked if I need a bowl of rice to go with.
How do I know it's a small dish?

Thankfully Alvin called fer deserts which I thought we over ordered at first.
We had a "Bollywood 3-in-1", which consisted of Banana Bread, Kueh Bingka and Kueh Kosui.
I've not tried both kuehs before and I kinda like Kueh Bingka more!
Alvin had to finish up 99% of the Kueh Kosui.

Fer drinks we had glasses of refreshing Lemongrass Tea for Alvin and Iced Lemon Tea fer me. Purrfect fer the hot weather!

Visited many plots and here's one of them.




Half-wished I could take some freshly picked kangkongs home to be cooked with sambal. Mm mm..

There were lots of other plants and fruit trees too which I can't be bothered to put them up here. (the rest are in my facebook)

Spotted this brightly coloured Hummingbird as we proceeded to explore the huge farm.




And erm, I peeked inside the eco-toilet too.

Could sit here fer half a day under this shady nook if not fer time and of course other visitors..

This should be the eco-toilet instead.




And we said adieu to Bollywood Farm to head off to Lian Wah Hing Quail Farm.
I can honestly say this was the best outing yet in 2009 fer the both of us but DAMNIT, the walk to the Quail Farm had to spoil it because it was soooo far, we walked fer a good hour before heading back to the Veggie Farm to hail a cab home.

There goes my quail pets which I wished to have.
Hahaha.
I once had them cause Jasmine bought two home!
One flew away (I wondered how), and papa went back to the farm to exchange the adult quail fer another two cute but frail-looking baby quails which in due time died.



Before I end off, here are some of the interesting plants/trees which I came across.

1) Didn't know Horseradish comes in a tree form too.
Thought Horseradish only comes in a plant form like White/Red Radish! Hurhurhur..
That's where you get your eye-tearing wasabi from! Shiok~

2) Quirky looking Banana Tree, I LIKE.

3) Bread Flower?
And so I went to google it.

Can't help but keep smilin' as I popped em' in mah mouth!


I get to eat exotic/gourmet fruits at the mister's.
The staples at my side are: apple/banana/pear/orange.
Occassionally: durian/NORMAL grapes/kiwi/plum/papaya(BLEARGH).

Can't even have my favourite mango in the 'occasionals'.
Mummy says it's heaty.
(what about durian?! double standard..)
At the mister's I indulge in mangoes like no one's business.

Gawd..can't my mum be more adventurous when it comes to buying fruits.
